Advanced IMAP / SMTP settings

Use Add Account when you need to enter hosts, ports, or a password. After an account exists, Settings → Accounts shows identity, unified inbox, signatures, and a read-only folder list.

From the Google or Microsoft sign-in step, Advanced opens the host and password form. iCloud, Migadu, and other addresses open that form directly. Seeing the form does not prove the provider still accepts a password. See Connect your first email account for Google, Microsoft, and iCloud limits.

FieldWhat you enter
IMAP hostRequired for custom servers. Known providers fill a host.
IMAP portDefaults to 993. Ports 25 and 143 are blocked.
SMTP hostOptional. Primail can fill a host from the address domain.
SMTP portDefaults to 465 when omitted. The iCloud preset fills 587.
PasswordThe password or app-specific password your provider requires.
UsernameThe email address. There is no separate username field.

Mail uses implicit TLS. Plaintext and STARTTLS are not supported. The iCloud preset still fills SMTP 587. This build’s outgoing-mail compatibility with that preset has not been verified. Follow Apple’s iCloud Mail server settings for the current hosts and app-specific password.

Connect verifies IMAP first. A successful IMAP check does not prove that sending over SMTP works.

Settings → Accounts → the account currently offers:

  • Sender’s name — local display name, saved with Save. Recipients see this name. The IMAP login stays the email.
  • Email — read-only.
  • Account color — a swatch. Change the color under Settings → Appearance → Color coding (per account).
  • Show in unified inbox — include or hide the mailbox in the cross-account Smart inbox.
  • Signatures
  • Folders — IMAP paths Primail already listed. You cannot remap Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash, Archive, or Spam here.

Host and port are not editable from that page after add.

While Primail is running, it watches for new mail. There is no per-account check-interval setting. ⌘R is Fetch Messages.
